The Brief

The Catitat: A habitat that sits in between bare wall studs of a gutted out house for cats to live in and on.  The levels of the Catitat are movable and the entire structure is easily portable.

After a flood, much attention is focused on human needs.  Many houses are gutted to the studs, leaving no place for pets to find comfort, safety, and personal space.  The Catitat offers a temporary solution by structurally attaching to open wall studs to offer a living space for cats as homes and lives are rebuilt around them.  This product creates a new way for pets to live.  It allows for the cat to be out of the way of work and to live with everything it needs off of the ground.  When reconstruction is underway, there is no need to worry about cats' paws being torn up by tough concrete, or having them step on glass, nails, and splinters, or having to designate a significate area of the house to become a temporary home for the pets, and completely rendering that part of the house unable to be worked on.  The Catitat works with a system of platform levels that the cat can move between with different elements on each level including a litter box, a play area, food and water bowls, and a bed.  These platforms snap onto collars that can be quickly and easily be clamped onto wall studs to form a stable level for cats to live on.

The Catitat: A habitat that sits in between wall studs of a gutted out house for cats to live within. The levels of the Catitat are easily adjustable and the entire structure can be easily moved from wall to wall.

After a flood , much attention is focused on family needs, but often leaves out the needs of their pets. Many houses are gutted to the studs, which removes comfort, safety, and personal space during reconstruction.  Our solution, the Catitat, structurally attaches to open wall studs and offers a variety of living space for cats as homes and lives are rebuilt around them. The Catitat is easily movable, and rebuildable. They can bring one section of the Catitat with them, say, to their office, in a matter of seconds. Our project creates a new way for pets to live while under the stress of a disassembled home. It allows for the cat to be out of the way of its owners, while still feeling safe and content with where it is. The main point of the Catitat is accessibility for its owner and safety of the cat. When you are reconstructing your house, you may worry about your cat's paws being torn up or scratched by nails or the exposed concrete. Keeping your cat off the ground, safe, and content was out main motivation. The Catitat is a system of different platforms which can be adjusted to each cat's needs. Each platform could possess either a litter box, food and water, a play area, a bed, and other necessities.

Partitioned privacy is a device that allows children or teenagers privacy. This device has a slider bar that connects to 9 LED lights in the block itself. The further you slide, the more lights turn on, indicating a higher need to communicate or enter the room.

During the flood, many doors, hallways, and rooms are completely torn down and a lot of families were living in basically, one open room. Now, as one could imagine this would insinuate a multitude of problems. No one wants to be around anyone every single moment of the day, and everyone needs at least a little private time to themselves to collect their thoughts, especially during a situation as stressful as rebuilding your house after a flood. This is where the Partitioned Privacy device comes into play. Let's say your house is being rebuilt from the flood, and your bathroom that everyone shares now does not have a door, only drapes or curtains. Now, this could pose some serious issues. Such as people walking in on you while you're showering or getting ready for the day when you're just trying to wake up and focus on what you need to do. But, with our device, these problems would not be a worry. If your showering and you see 1 out of 9 lights come on, that might mean, "hey, when you're out, come talk to me." If you see 6 out of 9 lights it might mean, "Hey, get out quick I need to use the bathroom." But that is the beauty of this device, it is personal to whoever has it. You and your family can set up your own guidelines for how to decide what number of lights means what. This is a completely personal yet simple device that could be useful in many scenarios.

This toy box is designed to provide comfort for children living in flooded out homes. Children ages 2-6 are mainly the people using this box. They can store their toys in the box and keep their rooms clean. They can also be entertained with the box. The box is interactive to provide children a sense of fun in an environment that lacks it. Parents will enjoy having this box for their children because it can keep their children entertained but also keep things around the house clean.

The project evolved significantly throughout the course of the studio. It started as a full bed for the children, but due to lack of time and resources, the bed wasn't able to be constructed. Then, from ideas from peers and teachers, the bed idea turned into more of a shelf. The shelf's purpose is to provide storage while also being interactive and fun for the children. The shelf then was formed into more of a box idea. This box idea made it easier for construction. Teachers and peers were big factors in this project.

This toy box we created is designed to help out people that were affected by the flood. The product is mainly for children from ages 2-6. The people affected by the flood, when living in their gutted out homes have a place for their children to store their belongings. Such as toys, stuffed animals and personal items.

The final product was completely different from the original sketch. The original sketch idea was a fold up bed, with different compartments that could hold personal items, like clothes, toys, towels. Basically any household items. The idea soon changed into a smaller version of that. The new and improved idea was going to be a pop up box that had the same purpose, minus the bed. The box was created by the 3D printer, while everything else was created by hand or Fusion 360. Hopefully, this project and idea will help was complete the next task.

The Play Box  is a box that is able to hold various items, but also able to fold out into a play may. The twist is that it can fold into a seat.

This project was created to protect kids from getting dirty when they play. In a post flood situation, the floors will be very dirty. The water that flooded will leave the sediments and chemicals down on the ground when the waters recede. They can’t play on a dirty floor, because they will get sick and it is not good for overall health. The Play Box has three ways it can be used. Its first function is obvious, it's a box for storing items. It will be used to store kids toys. The second usage is to turn the sides around and sit on the cushion. This is helpful to also not get dirty on the floor. The third way to use it is to lay it flat on the ground and put up two sides with the handy latch. This allows someone to play without getting dirty on the floor. This was made by taking a sheet of wood and laser cutting it. Bolts and nuts were used to hold the hinges to the wood, allowing the box to open and close. The project was finalized by adding a paint layer to the outside of the box.
