Tactile Objects

Studio Outline

The way in which we absorb knowledge in today's world stems primarily from textbooks and computer screens. But an approach to learning which stimulates the visual, as well as the tactile and auditory senses, has the capability of allowing those with sensory impairments to engage with these interactive, educational objects.

In this studio, students will reinterpret existing exhibits at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum by augmenting their selected exhibit piece/topic with sensory inputs that extend beyond the visual. Sight, sound and (most importantly) touch will be the primary means of exploring universal design within the studio. The aim of these constructed mini-exhibits will be to break down a complex idea by using physical, mechanical movement to explain how a process within a system works.
